RATIONALE

This module provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of Accounting and Economics. It aims to deliver a general overview of the nature and role of Accounting, the foundations of Business Economics, and respective concepts, principles and theories through practice exercises and tools. 

AIMS

The main aim of this module is to help students to comprehend the below Accounting and Economics concepts:

  • The nature and role of accounting 
  • Accounting concepts/principles underpinning the income statement
  • Introducing accounting practical exercises 
  • An introduction to Business Economics
  • Economic systems and tools

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of Accounting and Economics, basic concepts and principles with the context of Business;
  2. Indicate their understanding of the main Accounting and Economics topics included in this module through their formative and summative submissions, and use overall contemporary information and material on Accounting and Economics theories to develop academic work, individually and collaboratively;
  3. Provide and describe workplace examples related to Accounting and Economics concepts.
